PATRICK MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED FRAUD

A Patrick County man was accused Friday of conspiring to burn his $17,000 pickup truck in order to collect insurance.

Charges against Jesse Ray Hall, 24, of Stuart came after he gave a statement to a Patrick County Sheriff's Department investigator.

Hall had reported the truck stolen on Wednesday.

Sheriff Jay E. Gregory said Hall originally told police investigators he had parked the truck in the parking lot of Dobyn's Church on Virginia 631 Tuesday night. Hall told police the truck was missing when he returned to pick it up Wednesday morning.

Gregory said the truck was found Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Stokes County, N.C. Its front end had been damaged and its interior burned with a petroleum product after it had been run into a ditch on the side of a rural road.

Gregory and Investigator D.J. Runge fingerprinted the truck Friday before questioning Hall, who had not filed an insurance claim.

The charges were filed Friday evening after Hall had given his statement, leading police to believe another suspect was involved.
