KIM-STAN FIGHT: DAVID WINS OUT OVER GOLIATH

SELMA now resembles a haunted ghost town. The Kim-Stan landfill is dead. The deserted mountain of garbage stands as an eerie memorial dedicated to the commonwealth. The thundering noise from the garbage-laden rigs hauling out-of-state garbage remains a faint echo.

I respect and admire the citizens of my community who with their determination and perseverance ended this nightmare. The daily picketers who withstood the elements and harassment, as well as the people behind the scenes who made countless phone calls, letters to state officials and long bus trips to state hearings, deserve appreciation.

Our crusade for closure has been a long struggle plagued by bureaucratic ineptness and frustration. Yet we remain ceaseless with energy and determination. Our struggle for justice was your typical David and Goliath story. Let all people remember that it was the citizens of our community who with their symbolic pebbles and stones crippled this environmental monster. The crushing blow requested by the state, thrown by Judge Byrd, was too late. Kim-Stan wounded our lives.

May the commonwealth properly clean up the mess and form into a posse in pursuit of bringing the Kim-Stan outlaws to justice.
