NATIONAL LEAGUE-NOTE

Less than a week after rumors began that Tom Lasorda would become manager of the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers ended the speculation by giving him a two-year contract extension through 1992.

The decision was reached during a half-hour meeting between Lasorda, team President Peter O'Malley and general manager Fred Claire.

"The rumors that circulated really had no effect on the timing," O'Malley said.

Lasorda, 62, has been a member of the Dodgers organization for 41 years - one more year than he has been with his wife, Jo.
