TRY READING BEFORE SEEDING OR WEEDING

Green thumb enthusiasts: No matter the size of your garden, the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library has just the book for you.

The library has several books that cover everything a beginning gardener needs to know and to encourage a love for gardening. They include: "The ABC's of Gardening" by Marjorie Dietz; Better Homes and Garden's "Complete Guide to Gardening;" and Good Housekeeping's "Basic Gardening Techniques." These books include tips for indoor and outdoor gardening and answer questions on flowers and vegetables.

For those with limited time or space for gardening, the library has books to help you to make the most with what you do have.

"The Postage Stamp Garden Book" by Duane Newcomb tells you everything you need to know to grow maximum food with minimum of care and space.

Milton Carleton's "Small Garden Book" is a perfect how-to for anyone who wants to have a beautiful small garden without spending too many precious leisure hours working on it.

If you are tired of the same old routine every spring and are brave enough to opt for something different and unique, then try your hand at Jeff Ball's "60 Minutes Garden." His technique uses permanent boxed raised beds enriched with compost. A special drip irrigation system makes watering and feeding the garden an easy task. And best of all, you only need to spend 60 minutes a week in the garden.

"Landscape You Can Eat" by Allan Swenson helps you make ornamental shrubbery more productive. It is a complete guide to planting, growing, and maintaining fruit trees, berries, and even nuts in your own backyard. "Backyard Fruits and Berries" by Diane E. Bilderback and Dorothy Patent details 13 of the most popular fruits and berries and reveals growing secrets that will make your harvest more bountiful than ever.

"Edible Landscaping" by Rosalind Creasy explains how to create beauty around our home while growing delicious, healthful produce. She also includes some resource-saving techniques.

For those interested only in the beauty of plants and are not interested or concerned with vegetable gardening, the library offers a variety of books on rose, ferns, perennials, houseplants, and wildflowers.

If gardening is your thing - experts or amateurs - check the shelves at the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library for a successful, satisfying season.
