Five former members of the U.S. Olympic team and two players from national champion Stanford were among 17 players chosen as finalists for the 1990 U.S. women's national team.

Nancy Lieberman, the 1976 and 1980 Olympian who was attempting a comeback, failed to make the group.

Virginia's Dawn Staley and Tammy Reiss were not among the finalists.
