ARTISTS, ARTISANS, COLLECTORS NEEDED

Artists, artisans and collectors are being sought for Pearisburg's sixth annual Festival Around Town June 16.

Interested persons should call 921-4449 to reserve space. Booths will be set up along Wenonah Avenue and in the Court House Square in the downtown area.

The festival will emphasize the Civil War era with historical activities and displays. An antique car show, old-time swimsuit contest and a frog-pouncing contest are some of the scheduled events.

The frog-pouncing contest is sponsored by the Giles County Historical Society and uses imitation frogs.

A putting contest, volleyball tournament and fast-serve net contest are also planned, with proceeds going to flowers and other planting projects downtown.

Bluegrass music groups will play and the Pearisburg Lions Club will have pit-cooked barbecue available.

Teen activities this year include a Midnight Splash party at the town pool with dance music, pizza and tee shirts available. Children will enjoy games and prizes offered at "The Children's Circle," located on the lawn behind the Court House.
