SOMEONE MUST CARE ABOUT SALEM'S VIEWS

AGAIN and again your personal views are presented as the only views. It matters not that there are other well-founded opinions; you continue to deny their existence, or at least their strengths.

Who cares about Salem's opinion? Someone must (other than residents of Salem) or this would not be newsworthy. Salem has not "suddenly" expressed its views; these have been stated previously.

Since Salem is the most efficiently, most effectively run local municipality, it is no wonder that many residents of the county would rather a change to better than a change to worse if there has to be a change at all.

Your views remind me of the years I spent in Fredericksburg. It is a small town with a big-city attitude. I used to think that, to its credit, Roanoke was a big city with a small-town attitude, but a few "big-timers" think that only size counts.

No, Salem isn't in "the driver's seat," as you say. It is a shame, though, because this is a vehicle on a crash course. TOM RUDISILL ABINGDON
