Jones, who had accepted a scholarship to play at Miami of Florida, decided to forgo college and signed a contract late Monday that contains a record signing bonus of $275,000.
Jones' father, Larry Jones, said the terms are "extremely fair," covering $68,000 in college education and a bonus that tops the record $241,000 the Braves gave prep catcher Tyler Houston last year.
Jones will go to Atlanta on Saturday to work out with the team and to undergo an examination of a broken bone in his hand, fractured in a scuffle with a teammate last month.
He said the Braves told him he would play for the Gulf Coast League team in Bradenton while his hand mends, then will move to the Pulaski (Va.) Braves in the Appalachian League rookie circuit.
Jones, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound switch-hitter who played at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla., is Florida's high school player of the year.
