PULASKI OKS CONSOLIDATED RECREATION TRIAL

A committee made up of representatives from Dublin, Pulaski and Pulaski County, has been studying the concept of a consolidated program for the past year.

"We need to give the committee a year to see what they can do," said Mayor Gary Hancock.

The county will have eastern and western divisions with separate coordinators for each.

Dave Hart, who runs Pulaski's Recreation Department, will be the coordinator for the west. A coordinator for the east has not yet been hired.

The program will work under a $140,000 budget.

Following the council meeting, members of the finance committee discussed the needs for the town's recreation program.

"This is one of the things that's always clobbered [in the budget]," said Councilman Nick Glenn. He said that to improve the quality of life in the county, the town needs to put money into bicycle trails, exercise trails and parks.

"We want to attract younger people into the community," he said. "If we don't address that now, we'll continue to play second fiddle to the city of Radford and Montgomery County."

The town will hold a hearing on the proposed 1990-91 budget on June 19 at 7 p.m.

The budget proposal, which includes $4.46 million for the general fund, shows a 6 percent increase over last year's budget.
