STANFORD WINS; CITADEL OUT

Troy Paulsen drove in three runs and John Reid pitched out of two late jams to keep top-seeded Stanford alive in the College World Series with a 6-1 baseball victory over Mississippi State on Tuesday.

Tonight, Stanford (58-11) will play Georgia (50-18), already a 16-2 winner over the Cardinal.

Stanford broke open a 2-1 game with three runs in the seventh inning off Mississippi State starter Bobby Reed.

In the second game of the day, John O'Donoghue allowed eight hits and Louisiana State broke out of a batting slump with two three-run innings as the Tigers eliminated The Citadel 6-1.

LSU didn't get a hit against The Citadel starter Billy Baker (8-3) until the fourth. Then the Tigers broke out with four hits and three runs in the fifth.
