Mrs. Clara M. Fender, age 85, formerly of Fries, Va., and Vinton, Va., passed away Wednesday, June 6, 1990, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Max Harrington, Rt. 1, Elk Creek, Va., the Bethel community. She was the widow of Raymond F. Fender. She was born March 28, 1905, to Mary Jane Steele Eversole and Charles Harvey Eversole. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Garden City. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Max (Peggy) Harrington, Elk Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Vaught, Fries; Mrs. Eugina Allison and Mrs. Margie Stephens, both of Vinton; one brother, Jack Eversole, Vinton; one grandson, Charles Harrington, Elk Creek; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon and Matthew Harrington, all of Elk Creek. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., where the family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The body will be moved to Oakey's Vinton Chapel Thursday evening where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Gardner and the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Independence Rescue Squad in Independence, Va., or to the American Cancer Society. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, and Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Vinton, Va., are handling the arrangements.
