FLORIDA JUDGE RULES RAP ALBUM IS OBSCENE

South Florida merchants were warned they risk arrest if they sell 2 Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" after a federal judge declared the platinum rap album obscene.

U.S. District Judge Jose Gonzalez on Wednesday ruled after a two-day trial that the recording is "an appeal to `dirty' thoughts and the loins, not to the intellect and the mind."

2 Live Crew's attorney, Bruce Rogow, said he will appeal the ruling but predicted that outside the judge's jurisdiction, the group will profit from the decision. The album's sales already are approaching 2 million copies.
