BEDFORD VALEDICTORIANS HAVE BIG PLANS

A Presidential Scholar, a musician, and a three-year participant in the Junior Academy of Sciences are in the ranks of Bedford County's valedictorians this year.

The three top graduates are:

David Bobbitt, Liberty High School. Bobbitt is a Presidential Scholar, an honor shared by only 140 other seniors across the country and two in Virginia. He is also editor of the high school literary magazine. Bobbitt plans to attend the University of Virginia as a Jefferson Scholar and Echols Scholar, majoring in economics.

Linda Hughes, Jefferson Forest. Hughes has played clarinet in her school's marching band for five years. Hughes has served in the elected position of Student Council reporter for her school. She was also a participant in the Virginia Junior Academy of Sciences, where she won first prize in the statewide competition for her project on peer pressure. Hughes will attend Virginia Tech, and is considering a career in business or corporate law.

Erica Thompson, Staunton River High School. Thompson has been in the gifted and talented program for five years. She has participated in the Virginia Junior Academy of Sciences for three years. Also, this past summer she attended Phi Delta Kappa Summer Camp for Prospective Teachers at Indiana University. Thompson will attend Roanoke College and major in math. She plans to become a teacher.
