HISTORIAN TO SPEAK AT MEMORIAL CEREMONY

An authority on the history of the South will speak June 23 at the dedication of a memorial marker for Spain Marshall Vaughan, killed in 1863 at the Battle of Chancellorsville, at the Foster Falls cemetery in Wythe County.

The 2 p.m. speaker will be Stuart McGehee, professor of history at Bluefield College and archivist of the Eastern Region Coal Archives, Craft Memorial Library.

He will speak on the Wythe Greys, of which Vaughan was a member. Descendants of Vaughan are particularly invited to the ceremony, to be conducted by United Daughters of the Confederacy chapters from Wytheville and Bluefield. Further information is available by calling 228-3965 or (304) 327-5354.
