Hepburn said several passengers were thrown. The wreck occurred at 10:24 a.m. near the Goochland-Louisa county line about midway between Richmond and Charlottesville.
State police identified the dead girl as Stacy L. Alderman, 9, of Richwood, W.Va.
The injured, all identified by state police as being either from Summersville or Richwood, were taken to hospitals in Richmond and Charlottesville.
One woman, Jane C. Alderman, 28, was reported in critical condition at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond. Six other passengers were in good or fair condition at various hospitals.
At Humana-St. Luke's in Richmond, one boy was treated and soon to be released and a woman was being evaluated and had not been admitted, a spokeswoman said.
Two other passengers were treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond and released.
The passengers were on a trip to Busch Gardens, a theme park near Williamsburg.
