CHURCH MEMBERS HURT IN I-81 ACCIDENT

At least five people were injured late Friday night when a motor home veered across the median strip on Interstate 81 near Salem and collided with an oncoming car.

The driver of the vehicle, who was pinned in the wreckage, apparently was the most seriously injured. The driver was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital by a rescue helicopter that landed in the northbound lane of the interstate.

State Trooper V.C. Jones said the motor home, which was headed south on the interstate, ran off the right side of the road before crossing the median strip and hitting the northbound car.

The vehicle had 13 passengers that were apparently part of a Colorado church group, Jones said.
