EXPLORE RAIL LINK TO WASHINGTON, D.C.

FRESH news items: Commuter rail service Manassas to Washington will start soon. Federal Railroad Administration budgets $10 million for high-speed train research. Nevada, California, Florida and Ohio officials calling for bids to build intercity rail lines. A 150-mph train to link Florida cities, construction starting 1991.

Well-liked as he is, no one could decline an invitation from Roanoke Mayor Noel Taylor to attend a confab at least to ponder a Blacksburg-Roanoke-Richmond-Washington rail-passenger link. Accordingly, kindly invite representatives of area counties, cities and towns, the governor's office, our congressional and General Assembly representatives, business leaders and railroad management and unions.

Does he want some free volunteers to address invitations and perform other preconference nitty-gritty? Just ask. ROGER LEWIS WILLIS
