BATES ANNIVERSARY

The Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Bates Bates anniversary The Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Bates of Roanoke will celebrate 50 years of marriage June 12. They were married on that date in 1940 in Hyden, Ky.

The Rev. Bates, a native of Columbus, Ohio, retired as a pastor of churches in Virginia and Florida.

Mrs. Bates, the former Ruth Begley of Hyden, retired as a registered nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals.

The couple are members of Vinton Baptist Church. They have five children and four grandchildren.
