CRAIG GRADS TOLD TO VALUE FAMILY

Reach for the larger world but at the same time hold onto family and friends, 54 graduates of Craig County High School were told Saturday night.

"You can do whatever you want to do," said Cindy Farmer, weather director for WSLS-TV Channel 10 in Roanoke. "You can go as far as you want to."

Farmer gave the graduates three main pointers: "Don't sell yourself short, participate in life and don't forget your roots."

Several of the graduates were the scholarship recipients.

James Wilson Robertson won the largest - $4,200 to Roanoke College.

Clarence Michael Reynolds, the valedictorian, received five scholarships totaling $3,050: the Robert C. Byrd scholarship for $1,500 and the Granville Meade, Roanoke County Council and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Craig County scholarships for $500 each.

Reynolds, who also won the Woodmen of the World Award, plans to attend Virginia Tech.

Michael David Jones received a $1,273 scholarship to Virginia Commonwealth University and James Shannon Oiler received a full scholarship for one year to Virginia Western Community College.

Other major scholarship winners included:
