AMERICANS FLEE LIBERIAN FIGHTING

Hundreds of Americans fleeing the fighting in Monrovia arrived here aboard chartered jets Sunday en route to the United States, and some said they were relieved to be out of the tense Liberian capital.

The 362 Americans were evacuated from the West African nation following heavy fighting about 35 miles from the capital.

They were to travel to travel to Charleston, S.C., on a midnight flight.
