TEEN-AGERS NEED PLACES FOR RECREATION

AS A TEEN-AGER in a very small community, I know that a drug- and alcohol-free recreation center would be a welcome sight.

The closest thing to a teen hangout is a small burger joint, which doesn't interest or entertain many teens. As an alternative, they turn to the streets for other forms of "enjoyment."

Recently, concerned citizens of my community became aware of this problem and obtained a grant to build a youth center. This center will open in July.

Closing a teen hangout just because teens play pool is ignorant. People should commend Mary's Consignment Shop and Game Room for its efforts to keep teens of Roanoke's Wasena Park area drug- and alcohol-free.
