TAIWAN REJECTS CHINA'S CONDITIONS FOR TALKS

A top Taiwanese official on Tuesday rejected a proposal from China for talks between their ruling political parties on communication and trade links as steps toward reunification.

Tsiang Yien-si, President Lee Teng-hui's secretary general, told reporters the talks must be between the rival governments, as proposed earlier by Taiwan.
