BAKER THREATENS END TO PLO TALKS

The Palestine Liberation Organization must condemn a thwarted May 30 attack near Tel Aviv, and take steps toward disciplining Abul Abbas, a member of the PLO's executive council and leader of the radical faction that carried out the attack, to avoid cutoff of its dialogue with the United States, Secretary of State James Baker said Tuesday.

The United States "will not allow our pursuit of peace to undercut our commitment to fight terrorism, and I think the PLO understands that," Baker said.

Baker's comments to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee came as seven senators, including Majority Leader George Mitchell, D-Maine, introduced a resolution calling for a cutoff of the dialogue.
