COMPANY-EVENT INJURY COMPENSATION UPHELD

The Virginia Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that an injury sustained by an employee at an employer-sponsored social or recreational event should be compensated.

A unanimous three-judge panel ordered payment of worker's compensation benefits to the parents of Soon Deuk Lee, 23, who was killed when hit by a car as she left a company party Dec. 28, 1985.

Lee was one of 21 Korean immigrants working as seamstresses for Vienna Enterprises Inc, which sponsored an annual Korean New Year's Eve party.
