SKATEBOARDING IS GOOD FOR YOUTH

WHEN THIS nation of ours is complaining of kids' being fatter and unhealthier than ever before, why is it that when a good, healthy, outdoors activity like skateboarding comes along, police and others feel it should be banned?

Football has many more injuries and yet is allowed and even sponsored by county and city authorities. So how come so many people oppose a sport that keeps kids from just sitting around thinking up crimes to perform? If officials do not think that these active youth should skate in public, shouldn't a city-run skate park be in order? JUSTIN L. EBY ROANOKE
