RETAIL SALES DECLINE FOR THIRD MONTH IN ROW

Retail sales fell again in May, posting their first three-consecutive-month decline since the last recession, the government said Wednesday. Analysts said the report reflected fading consumer confidence.

The Commerce Department said sales skidded 0.7 percent to a seasonally adjusted $146.84 billion after falling 0.9 percent in April and 0.4 percent in March. Sales had not fallen for three straight months since the fall of 1981.
