Westvaco was recognized for its research and use of methods to reduce the formation and discharge of dioxin and chloroform at its paper mills in Covington; Luke, Md., and Wickliffe, Ky.
Westvaco's energy award was for a sludge dewatering process that allows its paper mill in Charleston, S.C., to use all of its sludge as fuel.
It is the ninth time Westvaco has been honored since the awards program of the American Paper Institute/National Forest Products Association was begun.
