Town Council recommended that real estate, personal property, and consumer utility taxes all remain unchanged, Also, it proposed no increase in either water or sewage charges.
The budget does include both a 5 percent salary increase for all town employees and the creation of a new part-time position to ease the workload in the town office.
Town Council stipends were adjusted to $800 for members and $1,200 for Mayor Clarence Taylor.
In other matters, Council discussed the proposed Curve Road construction project. Some Curve Road residents expressed concern about possible safety hazards if the roadway is completed as planned.
Curve Road area resident Mike Collins speculated that the plan would "turn a freeway into a speedway." Since construction would not begin until 1992, which leaves time to examine these concerns, Taylor suggested that Town Manager Ken Vittum get in touch with state engineers to examine this concern and possible solutions.
Council also moved to apply for a $25,000 grant to study the feasibility of developing the downtown Thomas and Woodbury buildings for use as residential housing.
Finally, Town Council decided to meet Tuesday for final approval of the budget.
