JURY SELECTION BEGINS IN CENTRAL PARK JOGGER CASE

Fourteen months after a jogger was raped, beaten and left for dead in Central Park, the trial in the case began Wednesday with the judge telling prospective jurors that the prosecution might present witnesses who had participated in the attack.

The prosecution said last year that it would present one witness, but Justice Thomas B. Galligan's statement was the first public indication that there could be more than one.

He indicated that the testimony would come from youths who might have taken part in the attack but were never indicted.
