Joyce Gillingham, who has had family connections in Craig since the early 1940s, has applied for appointment to the board to fill a seat now held by Thomas A. Zimmerman. Zimmerman is seeking reappointment.
The two will be interviewed by members of the Craig County Board of Supervisors Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The supervisors will appoint one of them to represent the New Castle Magisterial District.
Zimmerman, 44, a native of Craig and graduate of the former New Castle School, is completing his first four-year term on the board. He also is mayor of the Town of New Castle and has a daughter who is a 1990 graduate of Craig County High School. Another child will enter the eighth grade in September.
Gillingham, 43, has two children in the Craig County school system - Jennifer, who will enter Craig County High in September; and Luke, who will go into the second grade and McCleary Elementary.
Gillingham has been active in the PTA and was that group's cultural arts chairman.
Through her Head Start work, she is now a candidate for certification through the Child Development Associates, a national credentials program based in Washington.
