ROANOKE WHOLESALER FORCED INTO LIQUIDATION

Three suppliers have forced Virginia Service Merchandisers Inc., a Roanoke wholesale company, into liquidation because they say it is not paying its bills. The involuntary petition was filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Roanoke.

The company, located on Salem Turnpike Northwest, has not paid for Christmas season merchandise, according to the petition filed by Barrett Manufacturing Co. Ltd. of New York City; Jack Pak Inc. of Milwaukee, Wis., and Telmont Inc. of Stow, Ohio. They filed claims for a total of almost $238,000; the company has not responded.

Three other business bankruptcy petitions have been filed. VWP Truck & Equipment Inc. of Roanoke, headed by Lonza E. Kingery, president, asked for liquidation, reporting debt of $132,330 and assets of $3,920. Fleming Kinship Land Corp. and Pounding Mill Land Corp., both of Wise, both headed by Scotty W. Burke, president, filed for reorganization. Fleming Kinship said its debt and assets each totaled $3.3 million. Pounding Mill estimated both debt and assets at less than $500,000. - Staff report
