TEST DRIVE ENDS IN CAR THEFT

Two men taking a car for a test drive pointed a gun at a salesman, dropped him off and took the car, authorities said Saturday.

Sgt. Donald Doggett said four youths and one adult were arrested in Friday's incident. One of the children was released from the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center to the custody of his parents. The others remained in custody there Saturday.

Doggett identified the adult suspect as Robert Toles, 18, of Spotsylvania. He is being held at the Rappahannock Security Center.

All five suspects are charged with armed robbery, he said. Toles is also charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and four counts of contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

He said the incident began at the Oscar Tate Isuzu dealership about 1 p.m.

Manager Bill Biddle said Friday night that one of his salesmen, James Burgess of King George, took two men out for a test drive in a $16,000 Isuzu Impulse.

Several miles from the dealership, the suspects pointed a sawed-off shotgun at Burgess and told him all they wanted was the car, sources told The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg in a story for Saturday. Burgess was dropped off by the suspects near Massaponax, apparently uninjured.
