ROANOKE NAACP CHAPTER HONORS ALBERT LIPPMANN

NAACP President Evangeline Jeffrey said this was the first time in at least eight years that her group has given out its "Race Relations Award."

The award was presented at Friday night's service at Temple Emmanuel, where Lippmann, who recently turned 80, is a member.

"Albert has been one of several key Jewish leaders who have worked with the black community to make for better relations in Roanoke," Jeffrey said. "Ten or so years ago, when the Klan was threatening to march on Roanoke, Albert was one of the Jewish leaders that joined a diverse group of blacks and people of various religions to form Roanoke Valley Together to promote better race relations in the Roanoke Valley."
