446 FRANKLIN SENIORS GET DIPLOMAS

Franklin County High School held commencement services Saturday, awarding 446 diplomas to a class that was not only big but also was accomplished.

"This is one of our largest and most talented classes ever," said Edwina Prunty, house principal for 11th and 12th grades. According to Prunty, more than half of the graduates are bound for college in the fall. She said that percentage is higher than in recent years.

Whether graduates continue formal academic education or pursue careers directly after high school, all were encouraged to strive for excellence in their endeavors.

Daphyne Saunders Thomas, assistant professor of business law at James Madison University, addressed the graduates.

Special recognition was given to 18 distinguished honor graduates. Those students maintained an A average during their four years of high school.

Valedictorian Andrea Dawn Brown and salutatorian Nicole Tania Roberts highlighted events of the students' four years together. Following their remarks, principal William Owings presented diplomas.
