O`BRIEN, WALTER F. SR.

\ Mr. Walter Fenton O'Brien Sr., age 84, died Saturday, June 16, 1990. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Doolin O'Brien. Survivors include two sons, Walter F. O'Brien Jr., Blacksburg; William M. O'Brien, New York; one daughter, Frances O'Brien Painter, Blacksburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Mr. O'Brien was born in Charleston, W.Va. and attended West Virginia University. He came to Roanoke in 1934 to work for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company where he retired as district supervisor in 1968. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church and of Lakeland Lodge No. 193, Free and Accepted Masons. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Tom Clay officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Instead of flowers, the family suggests that friends remember Mr. O'Brien with memorials to a local charity.
