ARMY REPORTS DROWNING OF SOLDIER IN ATLANTIC

The Army is investigating the drowning of an enlisted man who ventured onto a closed beach, Fort Story spokeswoman Libby Alfriend said Sunday night.

Alfriend said Pvt. Wayne Mason, 23, of Silas, Ala., drowned in the Atlantic Ocean about 8 p.m. Saturday. She said Mason was among soldiers who went to the swimming beach behind the non-commissioned officers' club after the beach closed at 6 p.m. Saturday.
