MONTGOMERY WARD TO OPEN JULY 20

Montgomery Ward said Monday it will open its planned department store at Valley View Mall on July 20 at 10 a.m.

Joann Francis will manage the store, which will employ about 150 people. Montgomery Ward acquired the mall location from Miller & Rhoads in January.

The store will be laid out in a series of specialty shops featuring brand and private-label merchandise. Some of the specialty categories are electric avenue, home ideas, apparel, children's store and "gold 'n gems." Auto express will open in the fall.

The store also will house "doctoronics," an appliance and electronics repair center that will service all brands. The manager's office will be in a central service center along with credit and gift-wrap functions.

Montgomery Ward has 334 stores in 39 states. - Staff report
