VINTON GIVEN TOO MUCH MERGER INPUT

ACCORDING to a recent newspaper article, Roanoke City Councilman Howrd Musser will ask Vinton officials to agree to permit residents in eastern Roanoke County to vote on joining the town if the city is consolidated with the county (rather than being automatically annexed, which the plan presently provides).

I appreciate Musser's position in this matter; however, since the town of Vinton is not a party to the consolidation agreement, I fail to understand why it is necessary to ask the town to accede to anything. Vinton has been permitted entirely too much input into the agreement, and to me, this is a typical example of the tail wagging the dog!
