SOUTHSIDE GARDEN CLUB RECEIVES STATE AND REGIONAL RECOGNITION

Southside Garden Club received first place in recognition of distinguished work for its publicity pressbook at the recent Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs State Convention in Abingdon.

The pressbook also received second place in the Small Club category in the South Atlantic Region 1989 competition. Mrs. R.H. Baker was chairwoman of the pressbook.

Mrs. H.L. Price, garden therapy chairwoman, was presented a certificate of merit for her garden therapy projects during 1989.

Working with a class of mentally handicapped students from Margaret Beeks Elementary School, members developed and presented a tour of Smithfield Plantation. Using fresh and dried plant materials, they provided a hands-on study visit for the students.
