ROANOKE BROADCASTER, NBC'S SCOTT HONORED

The Virginia Association of Broadcasters on Tuesday named veteran NBC weatherman Willard Scott as the 1990 Distinguished Virginian.

Scott, an Alexandria native who has been reporting the weather for the network's "Today" since 1980, received the honor at the broadcast group's 53rd annual meeting here.

The VAB gave the C.T. Lucy Distinguished Service Award to Roanoke broadcaster Charles H. McKeever, whose career with WDBJ-TV spanned 31 years. McKeever retired in January as the station's president and general manager.

WDBJ-TV and WWBT-TV of Richmond shared top honors for best substance-abuse campaign in 1989. - Associated Press
