A recent survey of east-county homeowners found that 97.39 percent did not favor the town of Vinton annexing to the Bedford County line and taking in the subdivisions of Falling Creek, Lindenwood, Spring Grove, Stonebridge and Montgomery Village.
Why do citizens of Roanoke County close to Salem get the opportunity to vote on whether they want to be part of Salem or Roanoke? What makes them so special? Is this a deal that Supervisor Harry Nickens and his cohorts conjured up during a closed-door meeting? Is it fair to give the residents of one district of the county preferential treatment over another?
I do not want higher taxes for less services, more speed traps, and even less representation than what we have now. Frankly, Nickens needs to listen to the constituents of his district and not to whims of fancy.
