OVERCHARGING DUE TO BUS STRIKE?

MY JUNIOR high band recently planned a trip to Williamsburg to compete with other bands, but we were almost not able to go because of Greyhound's strike.

Our teacher made reservations months in advance with a bus company for a three-day trip at a cost of approximately $2,000. When our teacher called back to change it to a two-day trip, we found out the cost would be approximately $3,000! Everyone had already paid his or her share, and we had no way of getting $1,000 in a few days.

Bus companies like this one must think that just because Greyhound is on strike, they can charge as much as they want and people will pay. The contract said that the price was subject to change, but no one ever thought it would be so big.

Luckily, we were able to find another bus company in Franklin County to take us at a reasonable price. However, I just don't see how this bus company could do that to us. It seems just so unfair, especially to a junior high band!
