TOP WILDER AIDE SAYS HE'LL DROP SECOND POST

More than five months after becoming chief of staff to Gov. Douglas Wilder, J.T. Shropshire continues to supplement his $92,913 annual salary by moonlighting as chairman of the state compensation board.

When he was selected as Wilder's top aide, Shropshire said he would quit his board post.

Shropshire said Tuesday that he will leave the compensation board job June 30, the last day of the fiscal year. He said Senate Democrats asked him to remain with the agency to prepare its budget for the 1990-92 spending cycle.

Steve Haner, executive director of the General Assembly Republican Caucus, complained that Shropshire's double salary was an example of patronage abuses by the Democrats who control the government.
