NEW LIFE PENTECOSTAL EXPANDING

A new worship area to seat 600 is under construction at New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church at 5745 Airport Road N.W. It is expected to be in use by late summer and is scheduled for dedication on Oct. 7 at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Walter Wood, pastor, said the structure will adjoin the present church, which has been in use since 1968.

Some of the $800,000 required for the building is being raised through a series of congregational projects.

In May, each member received a replica of a yardstick and was asked to fill it with 51 dimes. This Yard of Dimes promotion exceeded its goal by nearly $1,000 and brought in $8,976 for the building campaign, the pastor said.

Contractor for the church is Creative Construction of Roanoke.

For the dedication in October, the speaker will be Bishop B.E. Underwood, general superintendent of the denomination with headquarters in Oklahoma City, Okla. Underwood, who has relatives in the Radford area, will preach at 11 a.m. and participate in the dedication at 3 p.m.

When the new church is finished, the present building will become a fellowship hall with gymnasium.
