IN RELIGION

BUCHANAN BAPTIST CHURCH plans to distribute New Testaments from its Main Street property during the town's annual July 4 parade. The evangelistic project also will include information about the church and a cup of cold water, a symbol of Christ's saving grace.

\ CHRISTIAN AUTHOR PETER MARSHALL will lead a seminar on imparting the Christian heritage of America June 30 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 6930 Woodhaven Road N.W. The program will cost $20 for individuals, $30 for couples and $10 for youth 10 to 18 years old. Marshall has published "The Light and the Glory" and "From Sea to Shining Sea."

\ NORTH ROANOKE BAPTIST CHURCH will sponsor a performance by Christian singer Susan Lewis July 8 at 7 p.m. The church is at 6402 Peters Creek Road in the Hollins community. Lewis, who recently moved to Roanoke County, has been a minister of music and has sung with several nationally known gospel groups. The program is free although an offering will be taken. \ THE REV. HOMER SAULS, minister to senior adults at First Church of God on Hildebrand Road for nearly two years, leaves the staff Friday Sauls, 72, and his wife are moving to Burlington, N.C., where a daughter lives.

\ ST. GERARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH at Eighth Street and Orange Avenue Northwest has changed its Sunday night Mass hour to 5. The new time will be in effect indefinitely.

\ RIDGEWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH, 703 Hemlock Road N.W., has scheduled vacation Bible school Sunday through Friday evenings from 6:30 to 9. Classes will be available for those 3 through adulthood. For more information, call the church mornings, 342-6492.

\ PAUL WASHINGTON SR. will be honored Sunday as Man of the Year at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, Cove Road at Lafayette Boulevard Northwest. The Rev. Ray Arrington will be guest speaker at the 11 a.m. observance.

\ ANNIVERSARY SERVICES to mark the 11 years the Rev. Paul E. Johnson has been pastor of Williams Memorial Baptist Church are scheduled there next week. The Rev. Alfred Prunty speaks June 28 and the Rev. Herman Word the following night, both at 7:30. On July 1 at 3:30 p.m. the Rev. Ulas Broady will preach.

\ JOINT JEWISH SERVICES are planned in July and August at Beth Israel and Temple Emanuel congregations. Starting July 6 at 8:15 p.m. Rabbis Jerome Fox and Frank Muller will speak on aspects of Eastern Religions, Christianity and Islam. The August series will cover Jewish Science, New Age Judaism and Humanistic Judaism. The services will alternate between the houses of worship on Franklin Road and Brambleton Avenue Southwest. \ TWO GOSPEL CHOIRS, God's New Generation and Buds of Promise, will perform Sunday at First Baptist Church, 226 S. Broad St. in Salem. Under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy London, they will sing traditional and contemporary numbers.

\ "LIVING IN THE POWER" is the theme of a program Saturday at 5 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W. The men's choruses and several soloists from Macedonia and Jerusalem churches will perform. Teresa Kasey will be the speaker for the program, which is sponsored by Jerusalem's Men's Day Committee.
