PLANNERS OK REDISTRICTING OF FARM AND FOREST PROPERTY

The Montgomery County Planning Commission has recommended approval of a request by Riner dairy farmer Bill Greear to remove about 43 acres from an agricultural and forestal district.

The request is the first since the county adopted a set of requirements for removal from the districts, which offer landowners tax breaks in exchange for preserving current use.

Commission member J. Edwin Keith said a committee that studied Greear's request concluded that it conformed to the county's criteria.

Greear hopes to build housing on the site near Auburn High School. He said he intends to give up the dairy operation.

James Martin was the only commission member to vote against the proposal Wednesday night. It now goes to the Board of Supervisors.
