SOFTBALL STARS TO FACE OFF IN LYNCHBURG

For the first time, the Virginia High School Coaches' Association will hold a girls' softball East-West all-star game in conjunction with its clinic in Lynchburg the week of July 9-12.

The softball game will be played at City Stadium at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, and the baseball game will be at City Stadium at 7 p.m.

Salem's Tracy Palmer, the Timesland softball player of the year, heads a list of seven Timesland players who were selected to the West squad.

Glenvar's Heather Browning, and Parry McCluer's Jenny Williams and Tammy Grant, who led their teams to the Group AA semifinals, also were chosen.

In baseball, only two Timesland players were chosen to the West squad - Timesland player of the year Chris Williams of Bath County and Grayson County's Mack Cassell. Each player led his team to the Group A semifinals.
