BEDFORD MAN DIES AS CAR FLIPS NEAR DOWNTOWN VINTON

A Bedford County man was killed Thursday afternoon when his car flipped over a grass-and-concrete median strip and landed nosedown in an oncoming traffic lane east of Vinton.

Teddy Eugene Thomason, 45, of 118 Hidden Acres Drive, was traveling west on Virginia 24 around 5:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car.

The accident occurred between William Byrd High School and Parkway Camper and RV Sales, said Sgt. Roger Robinson of the Roanoke County Sheriff's Department.

Thomason was thrown from the car.

Robinson said traffic is usually heavy during that time of day, but a gap in the traffic flow apparently kept the car from striking any others.

Thomason was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
