MOTORCYCLIST KILLED ON INTERSTATE 64

A West Virginia resident was killed Thursday when his motorcycle ran into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 64 in Rockbridge County, police said.

Larry David Welch, of Clay, W.Va., was pronounced dead at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Welch was traveling behind friends who were riding in a pickup truck, according to state police. The pickup passed the tractor-trailer and he tried to follow.

Police said Welch was traveling much faster than the tractor-trailer, which was going about 25 mph.

The accident occurred 12 miles west of Lexington about 7:40 p.m., police said.
