FOUR LOCOMOTIVES DAMAGED BY FIRE

A hose burst at a Norfolk Southern fueling facility in Roanoke late Friday, sparking a fire that damaged four locomotives, a company official said.

Don Piedmont, director of public relations, said diesel fuel spilled onto the hot manifold of a locomotive being refueled at Shaffers Crossing about 11:30 p.m.

Piedmont said he did not know the extent of the damage, but no one was hurt.

City firefighters, manning four engines and a ladder truck, had extinguished the fire by 11:45 p.m.

Piedmont had no immediate cost estimates on the damage.
